Default Crowd Of 50 Drunken Lazy Sluts

Excerpt from the September 11th, 1889 Pall Mall Gazette regarding the Pinchin Street Torso....two correspondents remarking on the crowd.
Heavyhanded comment or accurate depiction ?

'Slut' originally meant 'slovenly woman' if I remember correctly. I live in Tulsa, which people never tire of pointing out is 'a slut' backwards.

Yours truly,

The Pall Mall Gazette wasn't one for mincing words in any case, especially in the 1880's under the leadership of W.T. Stead.

Cheers,
Adam.
