Interesting, although it's arguably too long after the height of "Rippermania" for this theory to be particularly compelling.

Gareth:
Check the date, buddy....this refers to the Pinchin Street Torso, left where found just two days prior to the article.

I did, How - September 1889. I might envisage some sicko med students deciding to hoax something in December '88 or early '89 (April 1st!), but ten months after the last definitive Ripper murder seems quite a gap. Perhaps they were med students with a hopeless sense of timing, as well as woefully bad taste!

I'd also suggest that while half a kidney or a hand or a finger might conceivably be a medical student prank it might be harder for a student or students to bring off a prank with a whole torso.

JD:

Thanks amigo.

I agree with the anonymous med student....

On the other hand, a med student prank might have been responsible or was responsible for the Eddowes kidney. I hold out that it might not have been.....but I found an article in which University of Pennsylvania students, a decade before the WM, had put organs on the front porches of the once-stately homes along the main drag leading out of Penn as a joke. Its on here somewhere.

Thanks again. Its a very good article, Jerry.

Thanks, How,

Interesting that the body parts would have been identifiable by injection. Does he mean embalming fluid, you think?

Also, while I'm on the Pinchin torso, this article appeared around the same time. Sort of off topic for this thread but I have mentioned this article before but never posted it. The body found on Tuesday is referring to the Pinchin Torso. This clip appeared near the end of the torso account. I can't find a follow up article as to whether they acted on this lead.

I'd imagine that it was embalming fluid, JD

In the US, I know they used arsenic as a preservative.
The French developed a method for arterial embalming in the mid-19th Century....I don't know if the British used this system, though.

Thank you!

Regarding the Scotch leg. Can't be Pinchin torso due to the August 31st date when the leg was found. PT was murdered around September 8th.
