It has been pointed out to me that I probably wouldn't miss Dan Norder if I had ever had business dealings with him. From what I hear of his activities, that's probably quite true. All I was saying is that I usually found his posts entertaining.

Hi Ken,

agreed, I spent many months working with Dan Norder at RN and he could be a very engaging and entertaining person, but he could also be damn annoying particularly on the bolster threads. Obviously, with the problems Neal has had on that front he is a person we don't think too highly of these days, that said it would be handy to see him he owes Neal! It certainly was a sad end to RN too and many people are owned more than a few issues.

I have to say I guess it is only naturally for people's interest to flucuate. My own has, I went through a pretty intense few years of regular CB posting in the beginning when I couldnt keep away, my assocation at various times with the various Ripper magazines led to intense behind the scenes activity but a gradual redcing of my online presence due to needing to be neutral etc. The period working at the Casebook Examiner meant I was spending most of my waking hours thinking about Ripperology in one way or another but I really had to learn to show restraint about what I was saying in public. The deletion of my Casebook account last year has probably kept me out of trouble but a with a much lower profile, but my point is, the same amount of interest. And just because someone isnt actively taking part in the community every waking hour doesn't mean the interest is gone. I think it is always there.

Tom, I have to disagree with you about Glenn - he is a gentleman and a truly nice guys, one of the good ones in Ripperology.

Best wishes
Jenni

The thing is that Ripperology really does take up so much time if you're fully fledged with it....combine full time work with heavy Ripper studies and all the other trivialties of life and it can regularly become too much to handle - especially since at the end of the day, for most of us anyway, Ripperology is just a hobby, not a career.

Glenn Andersson was probably the first person I had really heated exchanges with over on the old Casebook site back in about 2004/05, and they were invariably over Elizabeth Stride. Having since got to know Glenn on a personal level (and having got a copy of his Swedish crime book with the English translation - "Mordet Pa Dagmar Kofoed" is the name I think) I agree that he's actually quite a nice man.

Certainly remember all the others that have been named as well and who all have made valuable contributions to the field - I think it's somewhat disappointing of Tom actually to be putting such opinions out there when they are evidently not here to defend themselves anymore.

Of course there was also Andy Spallek but there's different circumstances behind that which we need not bring up.
Stan Russo is another one who was heavily involved a few years back and who wrote a book called "The Jack the Ripper Suspects"....still hear from him occasionally, he is apparently running a fantasy football website these days.

The point is that there's been a lot of people who have come, left their contributions and then gone again over the years, and no doubt there will be again. A lot of these former members we speak of can be found on places like Facebook, and the ones I have spoken to almost always hum the same tune: would still like to be involved, still keep an eye on the case, but just don't have the time or motivation either to seriously contribute or to deal with all the shenanigans that go on within it.....it's a shame but Ripperology isn't an easy world so it's probably destined to stay that way.

Cheers,
Adam.

Hi Adam,

totally agree - it was the best of times, it was the worst of times - this sums up my relationship with Ripperology over the last 12 years.

Jenni

ps dont think there's anything wrong with mentioning Andy Spalleck's imprisonment for having child pornogrphy as it is well worth bearing in mind that we dont really know anyone in Ripperology as well as we might think.

Debs,

Sam Flynn?

Under his straight moniker, Gareth Williams, he is still listed as an editor at Ripperologist, even if he seems no longer to write articles or posts. Too bad, as he usually made sense, had a good sense of humor and, bearing in mind previous posts on this thread, regularly skewered Norder whenever Dan deigned to engage him in debate.

I'm glad Adam and Jennifer stood up for Glenn as well. He is a real gentleman, if unco stubborn at times. Howard remains a friend of Stan Russo and can probably supply more information, but he seems quite happily married and exploring new business possibilities with, as Adam says, his sports pools. But he, too, is missed.

Finally, I did get a chuckle out of the mention -- again -- of the old bolster or flesh debate. Still waiting to hear from Norder's crack medical team that (he claimed) determined it was massive mounds of flesh on the table at 13 Miller's Court, obviously implying Kelly was an-out-of-work circus fat lady.

Don.

I always got on well with Glenn. Also, as I recall, he was no mean artist.
