Unhappy R.I.P. David Radka

Unfortunately, we do not have David's obituary, but we are saddened to learn of his passing this last January. That he had a debilitating and ultimately fatal disease that killed him at the untimely age of 54 makes it all the sadder.

While we do not have an obituary to post, I am providing a link that I am sure that David would have approved of.

We may not have agreed with you, David, but we salute you and commiserate with your family at this time of sorrow.

Yes Tim, I think that if someone spends a lot of their time thinking and writing about the case, then that's all anyone can ask, really. He had his own distinctive personality and outlook, and it will be missed.

I don't think it would suit David Radka to rest in peace.
He was a spitting ball of furious fury and combined that with an exceptional insight into this crash bang wallop of a case; and then a damn you to the pirates sort of mental agility that spoofed and foxed us all.
Nah, David, don't rest in peace, create hell in heaven and heaven in hell, and haunt me forever.

Unhappy Obit

Thanks for that, Tom; I had not known that his obituary was available. I am going to copy it into here since that link will eventually expire.

Hi all

There is an obituary of David Radka in the March issue of Ripperologist now being finalized. The obit was written by Don Souden.

Hopefully Dave's father is holding up as best as he can. I believe Dave was an only child and Radka Sr. has to be pushing 80 or 85 not to forget that his Mrs.Radka has passed away as well.

R.I.P. Dave.

Hello Everyone

Here is the photograph of the late David Radka that we ran in Ripperologist 77 just published and that was kindly supplied by his father, Reinhard Radka. I am not sure that any of us Ripperologists had the pleasure of meeting David so I thought you might like to see what he looked like. Interestingly, he was a redhead! When I requested the photograph of his son, I also transmitted the condolences of the Ripper community to Mr. Radka.

David had talked about coming to the first U.S. Ripper convention in Park Ridge, New Jersey in April 2000 organized by Casebook Productions, Inc., the venue at the Park Ridge Marriott not being too far from his home in Newington, Connecticut. Ultimately, though, David did not make it as much as we organizers, Dave Yost, Judy Stock, and CMD, and other attendees would have enjoyed meeting him. It was of course tax season in April and David's busiest time of year in his job as a CPA so his non-attendance was not unanticipated.

Best regards

Chris George

Thanks Chris for passing on our condolences to David's father.

I thought that Don did a very nice obit, though it seemed to end a little abruptly.

Robert,

I thought that Don did a very nice obit, though it seemed to end a little abruptly.

So, sadly, did David's life.

Don.
