Default The maddest theory of all?

Boston
Journal of Health [2-3] (1888)

"A GREAT number of theories have been started to account for the Whitechapel murders. There is the theory that the murderer is a Malay sailor, who had been robbed by a prostitute, and vowed vengeance on her class: there is the theory that mutilators are to be traced to an old thieves' superstition said to be prevalent in Germany, that a candle made from human fat will send any person in whose bed chamber it is burnt into a profound slumber; another is, that there is a mad Texan cowboy, who perpetrated a series of murders in San Antonion,Texas, some time ago; then there is the theory that the murderer is a homicidal maniac; finally, there is,perhaps, the maddest theory of all, that the murders have been organised by the Fenians to produce a scare."

Default bombs away

Hello Debs. Thanks for posting this.

If an Irish terrorist group had wished to scare people, all they needed do was to claim they had some bombs.

cheers.

Default rumour

Hello Debs.

"I can't think of an 1888 theory about Fenian involvement though, can you?"

Well, just before "MJK" died, there was a rumour about one of the Irish National Invincibles being out and about.

Perhaps there were popular rumours flying about?

Cheers.

Hi Lynn
Yes, absolutely.
What I really am curious about is what theory from 88 they are debunking? Do you know...someone put me out of my misery if you do!

Default "I am invincible."

Hello Debs. Thanks.

"What I really am curious about is what theory from 88 they are debunking?"

Perhaps the Invincible theory I alluded to?

Cheers.
