The Diary is a controversial subject but an interesting one for many.

Its amazing to think we will finally be bringing the Big Ripper Conferences to Liverpool for the 25th anniversary. A full line up of the Diary panel will be announced soon.

So far , for the panel , we have announced :

Shirely Harrison and top researcher Keith Skinner.

We have two more to announce plus our VIP host for the evening.

Watch this space.

From Rick Cobb :

At this years conference Stephen's talk will be an investigation into the nature and appeal of the criminous, as the great crime writer William Roughead termed the material of true crime in its most literary sub-genre. He offers a theory concerning an infamous crime from his own city of Leeds, a response to Bruce Robinson's vast work on the Ripper, and some thoughts on murder resulting from his years as a writer in prisons.

Wade was born in Leeds and educated at the universities of Wales and Leeds. He taught in further and higher education for many years, and this was followed by six years as a writer working in prisons. He has written over fifty books, mainly in non-fiction, and he also lectures part-time at the University of Hull.

Recently, he has been doing more teaching on leisure courses, principally for the Relax and Write series of weekend courses and retreats, and he is also to be featured at the Morley Literature Festival in October.

Nothing in this agenda about my Lifetime Achievement Award. Actually Keith Skinner could present it - he corresponded with me once or twice. If not, maybe Shirley Harrison would do it (I would be so honored).

Carrie Brown may or may not attend -she would be my first choice.

Very kind, Scotty, but unfortunately Carrie Brown can't be there as she has a prior appointment in The Village, with Number 2.

Love,

From Rick Cobb :

The Jack the Ripper conference is very pleased to announce our next speaker/ panel member.
JAMES JOHNSTON
James Johnston is a twenty-three-year-old filmmaker and Maybrick Diary researcher, born and raised in County Down, Northern Ireland, who first became interested in Jack the Ripper, around the age of sixteen.
For most, the greatest riddle has been the question of provenance, and it is with regard to the Diary’s origins that James has devoted so much of his time and research.

Working alongside Shirley Harrison, and others closely associated with the Diary, James has traced and interviewed many of those entangled in the Maybrick story, including an exclusive interview with workmen involved with Battlecrease house in Liverpool.
Piecing together the testimonies of those involved, it is James understanding that the Diary, and in all likelihood the ‘Maybrick watch’, were discovered and removed from Battlecrease House.
Over the course of his research, the humble origins and intricacies of the Diary’s story have become as enthralling as the plot of any classic mystery, and it is poignant that the story should return to Liverpool, the city of its origin, twenty-five years since first capturing the world’s imagination.
James has stated that in the absence of any hard evidence pointing toward a modern forgery, it is his hope that by addressing the issue of provenance, researchers and enthusiasts alike will turn their attention to investigating how and why this document was written in/or close to the date of 1888, and who would have had the motivation to write it.
We look forward welcoming James to the Conference and hearing the results of his in-depth research.
