The Gazette provides an interesting perspective on the murders, Howard, although in keeping with the overall cynical view of the British police adopted by the American press, for whatever reason -- anti-British sentiment, the Irish background of some of the pressmen, or just sour grapes about the "hoity toity" British.

This is among the shorter #JacktheRipper newspaper articles that I have put out on my Twitter feed to hopefully bring in some new members to the forum, which I am pleased to do.

CG;
As always, your efforts towards making people aware of JTRForums are appreciated very much.

Its funny, because while most people feel the American press were overtly harsh on the London police, its been my experience that its not quite that lopsided as I've read numerous sympathetic responses to the efforts of the London police and the crimes in Yankee press.

Some might feel...maybe most might feel this way...that the article in the Gazette is 'down on the police'.....I don't see it that way.
I think it's expressing the opinion that one man can make a difference among many....although whatever frame of mind the reader was currently in might color their perception the other way....

Thanks, Howard. Yes I suppose the piece could be viewed as being not as cynical about the British police as I had first thought, but more saying that the police had a hard task against a clever adversary. The article is though yet more proof that people worldwide, even in Fort Worth, Texas, and in other American states and in countries other than Britain, were thinking about and personally effected by the Ripper phenomenon.

I also think that the statistic shows why certain Scotland Yard coppers felt they had "identify" the Ripper -- even if the solution the individual police official chose didn't really close the case as they claimed it did.

It was partly a prestige issue too, Chris.
Most important city in the world....largest city....a century of spectacular scientific achievements.. etc....and here's one putz who they can't put a finger on.
