Default Key moments in Ripperology

Part of the new mission of the conference team is to help introduce newbies to the case. So someone who has just read a couple of books and wants to come along won't be put off.

So one of the things we are working on for the website is an introduction to the case. And this includes Ripperology.

So we're putting together a timeline of Ripperology for the website. We're consulting the Casebook timeline for some assistance, but we want this crowd sourced. We want the field to help decide what the key/defining moments for the subject have been over the last 126 years.

Month/Year and what it is will be fine.

E.g. 1987 - Victim photographs returned to Scotland Yard.

So post here what you think the most important developments have been. We generally don't want when books were published, but if a major theory has been introduced (Royal Conspiracy or Maybrick for example) it'll be included.

Hi Jon

Well, some developments are smeared out in time e.g. the internet, digitisation etc. But you could put the dates for the foundation of the Casebook and the Forums.

The Sourcebook was a major event, putting most of the important documents into the hands of everyone, from expert to novice.

And surprisingly there was one pre-1888 event vital to Ripperology : the birth of Howard Brown.

Already have those things (minus the birth of Brown, we don't want to go back to BC). Thanks Robert.

JR

I would like to add the year 1910 as a key moment in Ripperology.

A thread with a few observations on events from that year.

1903 - The trial of George Chapman / Severin Klosowski and the comments by Abberline regarding his candidacy as a Ripper suspect in the press.

Good luck with this!

Cheers,
Adam.
