Debs:
I'm sure that happens as often with you as it does with me.
I'm just really happy you went further into the Sunday Times than I had.

By the way, the squashed sentence which appears is that way in the article....I cannot correct it.
Hi Howard. The chopped line appears to me as, "(In) 1864 the murderer of Mr. Brigg all but," and then the next line (possibly more) is missing entirely.

Yours truly,

Great find Deb, apologies, I think I was a bit busy and missed this thread

There's only a couple of times someone asked some pertinent questions as to why Grainger's real past wasn't being revealed, or why he was only chaged with GBH/wounding, no reply being forthcoming and no further reference being made to Swanson's "Ripper has died" claim

That's an interesting referenc eto stron suspicions about Grainger even after his conviction

Grainger, and subsequently Forbes Winslow, referred in 1910 to letters sent to the press by Kebbell stating that Grainger was the Ripper, appearing while Grainger was serving his original sentence, ie 1895-1902

I think there was also reference to letters more recent to 1910

It's a bit of a mystery how Grainger would have known about any letters in the press while he was serving his sentence

I've read descriptions of Portland prisons which say that prisoners were not allowed to talk, never mind receive news from the outside

...though it might be something simple like a warder saying "Hey, Grant, you're in the papers again!"

Stewart, if you're reading this, could I ask whether you know of any mention of Kebbell in the press, especially "letters" by him between 1895 and 1910?

Thanks

Nemo
