I don't like trick questions like this though

There's a clue in that a pre-schooler wouldn't know any complicated maths, so if you see the numbers as abstract symbols rather than numerals it might help

I posted my answer on the wrong thread. so here it is again 0=1, 6=1, 8=2, 9=1 all other numbers = 0.

Yes, it's 2.

Only just looked at this - like How, I've been busy with Ripper things.

But it's one of those puzzles that's easy when you know. The thing about these types of puzzle is that they are 'clueless' - and that makes them hard to solve unless you think laterally. And, having once won prizes from Edward de Bono for lateral thinking.....
